Elmswood House Equality, Diversity and Accessibility Statement

At Elmswood House, we believe that equality is crucial legal and moral principle, and we seek to uphold it in all business and personal interactions. We believe that diversity is a virtue, and we welcome and seek to encourage it.

We welcome guests, suppliers, contractors, and should it ever come to that, employees, from any and all walks of life, and will never discriminate against anyone on grounds of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or disability. We welcome the wonderful contribution that can come from a meeting of different perspectives or backgrounds, and we want Elmswood House to be a place that fosters equality and diversity, on the basis of respect, tolerance, and a shared commitment to sustainability.

We want Elmswood House to be as accessible as possible to all those visiting us, or thinking of visiting Cornwall, and at least to make it clear the ways in which we are or are not accessible. We aim to describe accurately our facilities and services to give potential guests the confidence to book in line with your specific requirements.

As an old house, in some ways Elmswood House is not ideal in accessibility terms. All of our letting rooms are on the first floor, and there is no lift, so none of our rooms are wheelchair accessible.  But we are keen to accommodate our visitors’ specific requirements. Please get in touch with any additional queries.

Mobility

None of our rooms are wheelchair-friendly. There is a full flight of stairs to all rooms, with a solid banister. All rooms have ensuite showers, with a maximum shower tray height of 6 inches from floor level.

Privacy

While our breakfast room is a communal space, the rooms are all ensuite, and while we would normally do a room check daily during your stay, (emptying bins, refreshing tea tray) you can decline this, so you can retain your privacy from others in the House, should this be required.

Visibility

Room information packs and Breakfast order forms are both available in large-type format.

Hearing

None of us here at Elmswood House are proficient in sign language, but we are very happy to communicate by text or exchange of notes, as has happened on several occasions. The room televisions have closed caption options, but there is no hearing loop set up in the house.
